One of the first things you should do if you receive a summons from the court is to address it. You should respond to a court summons for credit card debt by first trying to settle the issue with your creditor and then by fighting the lawsuit in court if you’re unable to come to an agreement.

The worst thing you can do is ignore the summons. If you don’t know why you received a court summons for credit card debt, contact the debt collector that filed suit and ask for documentation proving you owe the amount in question. The court system relies on evidence, to ensure you owe the debt and or make sure it belongs to you and not someone else. This will give you more information to go on, and if the debt collector doesn’t have the necessary paperwork, the suit could go away.

Things to do if you receive a summons:

  1. Don't ignore it
  2. Try to work things out
  3. Answer the summons
  4. Consult an attorney
  5. Go to court
  6. Respond to the ruling

The number one problem people are facing today is the economy and financial challenges. Remember you are not alone, the best thing to do is to face the facts, address the court summons and over time you will be made financially whole again. This information will help you overcome a court summons, and move forward knowing you will and can do this.
