When you work and have money taken out of your salary, your employer will match and or provide a percentage towards your pension and at the end of your work life, you will have accumulated a nice investment that will carry you into retirement. Companies typically take your investments, add them to theirs and invest it in the stock market, mutual funds, and more to increases the returns for you and them. 

Some people aren't aware that they can take their pension and obtain a lower interest loan against it that saves them on the interest rate while it continues to remain in the pension account. That's not all, people can also take some of their pension and invest it in real estate and other investment options available.
